My guess is that you were using photoshop. You set down a layer with a patern, then you might have taken your picture, desaturated it, then did a chanels selection that picked out the darker colors of the picture and left quite a bit of transparency in the selection and then you possably lowered the opasity -- am I correct in this guess?
